The Ministry of Transport suggest that when choosing an instructor
you should consider the following;
Q1.
Will there be a planned
training programme?
A.
Yes, at ‘Drive’ we have a fully tried and
tested planned driver training programme, but we also
realise the importance
of flexibility to suit the individual. If a pupil is
finding a certain subject difficult and frustrating,
we feel it is better to return
to the subject at a later date.
Q2. Will there be structured lessons where the instructor will
show you what to do, explain what is required in a way you
easily
understand
and then let you practise at your own pace?
A.
Yes, at ‘Drive’ on every lesson you will be briefed
on what is to be learned and how best to achieve it. We understand
that people relate to information in different ways. We have
many different ways & methods of putting across the information.
We
also believe that pupils should not only be made to do something
that is beyond their capability. This just lowers the pupils
confidence and they might get a mental block on that subject.

Q3. Each time you try something, will the instructor let you
know how you are going and give you tips for fixing mistakes?
A.
Yes everyone needs encouragement and constructive criticism
and tips on how they might improve.
Q4. If you keep making the same mistake, will the instructor
give you new ways of correcting it?
A.
Yes with years of experience we have many techniques in
which to help you overcome a problem, but what is equally important
is your instructor will remain calm and patient at all times,
no matter how many times you might make a mistake.
Q5. Will the instructor set ‘homework’ and
skills
for you to practise when you drive with other people? They should
be encouraging you to get lots of practise.
A.
Yes, your ‘Drive’ instructor would give
you question sheets to enable him to assess your
level
of knowledge, and would
give advice on what to practise when you drive with
other people.
When
you book your first lesson you will be sent a worksheet
for your 1st lesson. (This can be mailed to you or emailed).
On your first lesson
the instructor will give you another worksheet for the following
lesson, and so on. These worksheets will give you a good
insight of what you will
be taught. This not only gives you a better understanding
of the subject matter, but it
also saves valuable lesson time. At the end of each lesson
you will then be asked to complete the homework for the following
week
and if you are learning with friends or relatives you will
be advised on the skills that you
should practise.
Q6. Will each lesson start and finish with a quick review of
your progress?
A.
Yes. During each lesson your instructor evaluates your
driving & at
the end of the lesson fills out your progress report
sheet
which is then explained to you.
Q7. Will the instructor keep a record of your lessons and learning
on a progress report sheet?
A
Yes. We have devised a unique progress
report sheet that
records comprehensively the lesson to be covered and
the standard reached
in each discipline.
